We wanted to share this story because it reflects something we see often in Somerset County: families who love their pets deeply and just need a little help to keep everyone healthy.
This family reached out needing spay assistance for two young female cats and two adult female dogs. The cats were about six months old—right at the age where timing matters. The dogs were overdue for spay, with upcoming heat cycles adding urgency.

At the same time, the family was navigating unexpected medical challenges and rising expenses. Even after calling around and doing their homework, the cost estimates they were given made it feel impossible to move forward.
What stood out immediately was this: giving up their pets was never an option. Their kids love these animals, and the family was determined to find a way to do right by them.
How Help Made a Difference
Through Somerset Pet Welfare Alliance, we were able to provide financial assistance that went directly to the veterinary clinic, helping reduce the cost barrier and move these surgeries forward.
When we shared the good news about grant-funded support and clinic pricing, the relief was immediate.
“I didn’t think I was ever going to get help to get them fixed.”
That moment—when stress turns into relief—is why this work matters.
With assistance, the family was able to plan spay surgeries before the dogs went into heat again and make progress toward getting all of their pets the care they needed.
Why This Story Matters
Life doesn’t pause when pets need care. Families juggle medical bills, transportation, school schedules, and rising costs—all at once.
Spay and neuter assistance helps families:
Keep pets they love
Prevent medical and behavioral complications
Avoid overwhelming, one-time vet bills
Stay ahead of preventable issues
This family did everything right: they asked questions, explored options, and reached out when they needed support.
We’re grateful they trusted us—and we’re honored to help keep their pets healthy and at home.
